Me on the left: current, with dreadsMe on the right: past, without dreadsSometimes I miss my normal hair- how I could run my fingers through it and style it and how curly it was. But then again- it took me forever to get it how I wanted it to look and it rarely stayed that way. It always had split ends and constantly had to be cut/managed/etc. With dreads I don’t have to waist my time and self esteem trying to make my hair look good. I can hop out of bed, take a quick shower, put a bit of makeup on and I will probably like the way I look. Even though my old hair looked good sometimes, it was never worth the maintenance. Plus, it never seemed to grow, since it was so curly and I was constantly trimming split ends.Maybe someday I will brush my dreads out, but for right now they seem to suit me much better and they make me feel a lot better about myself than I thought they would. They don’t look beautiful yet- they probably won’t for a few months- but they help me lead a much simpler life that my old curly hair did. They make me feel like I don’t have to spend ages getting ready just to leave my house.
